> Candidate journey by interview type — link, SMS, form, resume — and what you can customize.

# What Candidates See

Below is the **typical path** for each type; your **welcome/closing** copy and **branding** come from posting and workspace settings.

## Flow by interview type

| Type | What happens (candidate view) |
| ------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Voice/Video** | They open a **link** (browser) or get a **phone call**. The AI introduces itself, asks for **consent to record** where required, runs through questions with **follow-ups**, then a **closing** message. They may get **SMS/email** confirmations. |
| **SMS** | They get a **text** with an intro and first question; they **reply at their pace**; the AI sends **follow-ups** based on answers, then a **thank-you** when done. |
| **Form** | They open the link and complete a **structured form** — questions in order, **no** AI follow-ups. They submit and see a **confirmation** page. |
| **Resume analysis** | They **upload a resume** (or you add them via ATS/API). There’s **no live chat** — scoring runs in the background; they may see a simple confirmation depending on setup. |

**Multi-stage flows** run in the order you built (e.g. form → voice). Candidates only see **the next step** once they complete the previous one, unless your workflow says otherwise.

## Candidate-facing customization

### Candidate Communications (automated email & SMS)

HeyMilo can send **automated emails and SMS** to candidates (invites, reminders, etc.). Teams sometimes ask whether they can **turn off HeyMilo’s default automated messages** — you can **pause all of it** workspace-wide:

**Settings → Company → Candidate messaging** → **Turn Off All Candidate Communications**

Details and screenshots: [Candidate messaging](../../settings-and-admin/admin/candidate-messaging).

## Quick fixes

* **Candidate confused about the next step**: Check **welcome/closing** copy and stage order in the posting; send them the **correct link** for the current stage.
* **Wrong language**: Confirm **Default Interviewer Language** and any **auto-detection** settings; see [Multilingual Support](../../interviews/interviews/multilingual-support).
* **They didn’t get SMS**: Confirm **phone number** and SMS settings on the posting; see [SMS Interviews](../../interviews/interviews/sms-interviews). If **no** candidates get **any** automated email/SMS, check **Settings → Company → Candidate messaging** — **Turn Off All Candidate Communications** may be on ([details](../../settings-and-admin/admin/candidate-messaging)).
